The Ministry of Defense announced a “new dimension” after the attack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the Kursk region

Military operation on Ukraine has “acquired a new dimension” after the Ukrainian Armed Forces invaded the Kursk region, Deputy Defense Minister Colonel-General Alexander Fomin said at the Xiangshan Security Forum in China.

“If earlier the Kiev regime actively used the image of a victim in the international arena and presented the fighting on its part solely as an allegedly just struggle for independence, then the aggression of the Armed Forces of Ukraine against the civilian population of Russia finally debunked this lie,” the Colonel—General said (quoted by TASS).

According to him, the military operation “completely turned the idea of modern warfare around”, since before it was difficult to imagine the modern scale of the use of drones. “Western weapons systems, allegedly possessing, according to advertising booklets, high tactical and technical characteristics, burn perfectly on the battlefield without any chance of recovery,” Fomin added.

Ukrainian units invaded the Kursk region more than a month ago — on August 6. By the evening of August 7, an emergency regime was introduced in the region, which was later given federal status. Fighting has been going on there ever since.

The command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine explained the operation in the Kursk region by the desire to prevent a Russian offensive from this territory, the diversion of Russian troops from other directions, the creation of a “security zone”, the capture of prisoners and the morale of Ukrainians. Commander-in-chief Alexander Syrsky admitted that it was not possible to divert Russian troops from the most difficult direction, Pokrovsky in Donbass.

President Vladimir Putin pointed to the failure of Ukrainian intentions. Moscow links the presence of the Ukrainian military in the Kursk region with the impossibility of resuming dialogue. “As long as we do not throw them out of our territory, we, of course, will not conduct any negotiations with them,” explained Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu.
