In Estonia, they decided to rename the Pushkin school

According to the authorities of the city of Tartu, this name “does not help attract students from Estonian-speaking families.” A competition has been announced for a new name for the school.

The history of the school began in 1899, when the Pushkin Women’s Gymnasium was opened on Pepleri Street. For the last ten years, the Alexander Pushkin School in Tartu has been a primary school with a citywide enrollment and a Russian language of instruction. Since the autumn of 2024, the language of instruction at school is Estonian.

Previously, the Estonian government did not allow teaching in Russian in schools and kindergartens in Narva, where 90% of the population is Russian-speaking.
