On Sunday, November 3, a large fire broke out at a polystyrene factory in the Dromolaxia industrial zone in Larnaca. As a result of the emergency, one person was killed.

According to police, the body was found while extinguishing the fire. According to preliminary data, this is a Greek Cypriot man. According to the other four people who were at the factory at the time of the fire, he was trapped in the attic while doing electrical work. Doctors are expected to conduct a DNA test to confirm the eyewitnesses’ guesses. The family of the deceased has been notified of the tragedy, but has not yet given any comments on the incident.

The press representative of the Cyprus Fire Service, Andreas Kettis, noted that the flame broke out on the territory of the plant at about 8:30 a.m. on Sunday. The risk of explosions due to the oil and gas tanks in the area caused alarm among rescuers. Therefore, all available specialists were called to the place of emergency.

Crews of 11 fire trucks fought the fire, who arrived at the scene together with reinforcements from EMAK and the Vasilikos fire department. In turn, police officers blocked the roads leading to the industrial complex for security reasons.
