According to a new survey, the main problem for most Cypriots is inflation, which worries almost two thirds of the population.

The local Cypronetwork “barometer” found that after inflation, 45 percent are concerned about the economy, 43 percent about corruption and 42 percent about the Cyprus problem.

Healthcare, immigration, education, and the environment were at the bottom of the list.

More than half of the respondents said they had “little trust” or “no confidence” in Cyprus institutions.

About 59 percent said they did not trust the government, 57 percent — the parliament, the same applies to political parties.

The results were consistent with data from a recent Eurobarometer study on the same issues.

Further, 61 percent of the respondents said they had little or no trust in the judicial system, while 52 percent felt the same way about the media.

The level of trust in the Church and the audit service has increased: a quarter of the respondents said they “fully trust” the Church, and 19 percent — the audit service.

Regarding the electoral choice in the next cycle, only 28 percent said they would vote for the party they usually vote for, while 16 percent said they would vote for a new party, and another 40 percent said they were still hesitating.

The poll also shows that the majority would support the new party if it met certain criteria. Important parameters for them would be the priority of public interests (73 percent), the part with social sensitivity (70 percent), free from corruption and collusion (68 percent) and active anti-corruption (66 percent).

As for the Cyprus issue, 25 percent were in favor of a two—zonal bicommunal federation, and 23 percent were in favor of a solution with the creation of one state.

About 14 percent would support a two-state solution, while 12 percent would prefer to maintain the status quo.

Only 4 percent preferred the Confederation. A high percentage, while a fifth of all respondents did not want to express their opinion.

The survey was conducted in December 2024 using face-to-face and telephone interviews among people aged 18 and over. The sample included 911 people and was representative of the population by place of residence, gender and age.
