Moscow will regard Kiev’s permission to strike deep into Russia as the entry of NATO countries into a direct armed conflict. This was announced on November 13 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
“We have noticed the publications in the British press about the intention of the country’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer and the French President [Emmanuel] Macron will try to convince the current US President [Joe] Biden to give Kiev permission to launch Storm Shadow missiles deep into Russia before the inauguration (of the elected American leader Donald Trump. — Ed.) of Trump,” she said.
According to Zakharova, London expressed the hope that the White House would give consent to these actions.
However, the diplomat said that Russia would regard Kiev’s permission to strike deep into Russia as the actual entry of NATO countries into a direct armed conflict with the Russian state. The response “will be inevitable and devastating,” the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted.
Earlier, on October 29, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, whose term of office expired on May 20, expressed his surprise that in September the United States did not lift restrictions on the use of American long-range weapons to attack Russia.
On October 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the Russian Defense Ministry was developing retaliatory measures to possible long-range weapons attacks on Russian territory. He expressed the hope that the NATO countries had heard his warning about possible consequences.
Back in September, Putin stressed that encouraging Ukraine to use weapons to strike deep into Russia would be perceived as the direct involvement of Western countries in the conflict. The possibility of lifting restrictions was one of the topics of negotiations between the current US President Joe Biden and Zelensky at the end of the same month, however, later in the The Pentagon confirmed that the ban is still in force due to the risk of escalation.
Western countries have increased their military and financial support for Ukraine against the background of the Russian special operation to protect Donbas, which began on February 24, 2022. The decision to hold it was made by the President of Russia due to the aggravation of the situation in the region due to increased shelling by Ukrainian troops.
