Rossiyskaya Gazeta writes that the Russian Armed Forces have taken control of the Shevchenkovskoye lithium deposit, which is considered one of the richest in Europe and was the largest in Ukraine.

The publication says that “systematically liberating the outskirts of Kurakhovo from the Ukrainian Armed Forces,” before the New Year, Russian troops “drove Ukrainians out of the village of Shevchenko.”

According to experts, the lithium reserves here should have been enough for all the needs of the EU countries until 2050.

The deposit was discovered in 1982. The area is estimated at 0.8 sq km, the thickness of the overlying sedimentary rocks ranges from 70 to 130 m, and reserves are estimated to a depth of 500 meters.
