Life expectancy at birth is estimated at 81 years for men and 85 years for women in 2023, compared with 80.2 years for men and 83.9 years for women in 2022. Infant mortality increased to 4.5 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2023, compared with 3.3 in 2022.

The migration balance in Cyprus was positive from 1983 to 2011. In the period 2012-2015, net migration was negative. Since 2016, net migration has turned positive again. In 2023, it was estimated at 13,782.

The number of long—term Cypriot and foreign immigrants arriving for permanent residence or temporary work for one year or more was 40,761 in 2023, compared with 37,558 in 2022. The number of expatriate Cypriots and foreigners who have lived in Cyprus for at least one year was estimated at 26,979 in 2023, compared with 21,118 in 2022.

As for marriages and divorces, the total number of marriages in 2023 dropped to 11,766 from 13,350 a year earlier. The number of church marriages decreased slightly: from 4,486 in 2022 to 4,355 in 2023. The number of civil marriages also decreased from 8,864 in 2022 to 7,411 in 2023.

As in the last few years, a large number of foreigners who entered into a civil marriage in Cyprus did not reside in Cyprus. Of the 7,411 civil marriages concluded in 2023, only 2,076 were civil marriages of Cyprus residents. Thus, the total number of resident marriages was 6,431.

The total number of divorces in 2023 increased to 2,134 from 1,503 in 2022. The total divorce rate was 2.23 per 1,000 population in 2023, compared with 1.60 in 2022. The overall divorce rate, which shows the proportion of marriages expected to end in divorce, rose to 347.8 per 1,000 marriages in 2023, up from 41.6 per 1,000 marriages in 1980.
