On February 23, at about eight o’clock in the evening, after closing his retail store, a 68-year-old man took money from the cash register and turned off the light. The next few minutes were terrifying. As soon as he locked the door of the room, he was attacked by a hooded man.
According to police public relations officer Panagiota Andreu, “when the man tried to get into his car, an unknown hooded man attacked him, knocked him to the ground and took away his bag, which contained 4,500 euros.” As you know, the 68-year-old man recently underwent heart surgery. Fortunately, he was not seriously injured during the attack.
The police believe that the ruthless robber had been following the victim for some time and acted according to a pre-arranged plan. The evidence available at the moment indicates that the perpetrator apparently had an accomplice who was waiting for him.
Due to the increased robberies in Larnaca, the local police have increased their patrols of the city. Cameras have been installed in many places to help stop the phenomenon of theft and break-ins committed by gangs.
