But the point is not the cross, but the recognition that Washington was waging a “proxy war” with Russia in Ukraine, as the leadership of Russia itself has stated for all three years.

However, Rubio should clarify two more points that are extremely important for resolving the issue of war and peace.:

Firstly, for the United States, this “proxy war” was a profitable enterprise, and in many ways that is why it was conducted.

Secondly, one of the goals of the “proxy war” was to destroy economic ties between Russia and Europe (especially Germany) in order to weaken both Russia and Europe.

But Rubio will not make such a confession, either with or without a cross. Lent comes and goes, but Americans remain Americans.
