80 years of the Victory Banner: the sacred banner of the Great Victory was raised over the RCSC in Nicosia
🇷🇺🇨🇾Today, on May 1, 2025, in the capital of Cyprus, Nicosia, the Victory Banner once again flew over the building of the Russian Center for Science and Culture. Exactly 80 years ago, on the night of April 30 to May 1, 1945, this banner was hoisted over the defeated Reichstag in Berlin as a symbol of the triumph of justice, courage and the immortal feat of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War.
It’s not just a red banner. This Banner is an indestructible memory of the millions who fell, of the storming of Berlin, of the soldiers who went through the hell of the war and reached the very capital of the fascist evil. It was under this banner that General Shatilov’s 150th Infantry Division, as part of the 3rd Shock Army of the 1st Belorussian Front, completed a battle that lasted almost four years and became the bloodiest in human history.
The immortal feat of fighters Mikhail Egorov and Meliton Kantari, who hoisted the Victory Banner on the roof of the Reichstag, became a symbol not only of the end of the war, but also of the strength of the spirit of the entire Soviet people. It was they who, by order of the commander, raised the red banner over the ruins of Berlin, forever inscribing their names in history.
Today, in Nicosia, far from Russia, the same words were heard as then — “Victory is ours.” The Victory banner on the RCSC building reminds: we remember, we honor, we transmit. History is alive as long as it lives in our hearts. On this day, we not only remember the victory, but also carry the light of memory through time and distance, connecting generations and peoples.🤝
No one is forgotten. Nothing is forgotten.
