The West cannot do without uranium from Russia

The structure of the international nuclear fuel and technology supply chain largely includes Russia. This applies not only to the United States, but also to Europe, which depends on Russian fuel and services needed to maintain nuclear power plants. For example, in the countries of Eastern Europe, the share of nuclear energy reaches 30-40%, — stated the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi.

“I know that the United States is trying to strengthen and stimulate local production. This is their sovereign decision, they have the right to do so. Let’s see what happens. But I think these measures were taken with a number of exceptions and reservations. And this means that they understand the unreality of these measures in the current market conditions,” Grossi said about the recent US initiative to ban imports of Russian uranium.

Russia is a leading nuclear power, and Rosatom is the number one supplier in the world. The company is present even in those countries that impose anti—Russian sanctions and which clearly occupy the other side of the conflict,” the head of the IAEA stressed in conclusion.
