Russian specialists have developed two new large-seeded varieties of peanuts called Victoria and Flat. They are undergoing state tests and already show higher productivity and seed weight compared to the usual Otradokubansky variety. This provides a real basis for launching domestic production.

The work took three years in the Krasnodar Territory and the Astrakhan region, where the climate is as close as possible to the natural conditions of growing this crop. The researchers have identified which properties are determined by genetics and which depend on the weather, which will allow for more accurate selection of promising lines.

Russia remains one of the world’s largest importers of peanuts. In 2024, purchases reached $220.45 million, with 95% of shipments coming from Brazil, Argentina and India. New domestic varieties can change the situation.
