Komsomolskaya Pravda: On December 10-13, Moscow hosted the third Congress of the International Russophile Movement (MDR), attended by about delegates from 52 countries. And on December 15, the European Union added the movement to the sanctions list. At the congress, Mikis Filaniotis, head of the Cyprus branch of the MDR, was elected the new Secretary General of the organization. In an interview with KP, he commented on his appointment and stressed that he was not afraid of EU sanctions.
– What are your plans for the post of MDR Secretary General?
– There are a lot of things to do. We will develop communication between the management and representatives of MDR in different countries. We are preparing an action plan for 2026 in every country where there are representative offices of Russophiles. We also plan to promote the activities of our organization in the information space: the official website, social networks, and the media.
We will continue to work on the creation of new branches. Our goal is to have representative offices of “Russophiles” in almost all countries of the world. The priority is given to the remaining countries of Europe and Africa, regions where there is a special dynamic. There are still many organizational, administrative and technical issues to be resolved, as we are practically building a new international movement from the foundation.
– Aren’t you afraid of personal sanctions from the EU?
– I have no fear of sanctions, because the truth is with us, God is with us – he will help us. If they want, let them take my pension, I won’t starve to death. If they believe that love for Russian culture and language, a tribute to historical memory and truth, especially the period of the Second World War, adherence to traditional values, justice and peace are crimes, then the EU is not a democracy, but a real dictatorship and the highest level of sick Russophobia.
– Your appointment is a recognition of the great role of the Cyprus branch of the MDR, which actively represents the people friendly to Russia…
– Our active activity in Cyprus leaves no one indifferent. The joint work of our department and the results achieved have resonated in the hearts of fellow Russophiles and have earned recognition. I would like to thank the Russian Ambassador to Cyprus, Murat Zyazikov, for his support and constant assistance, without which it would have been difficult to hold such successful events, where Cypriots, Russians and other Russian-speaking citizens participate in our activities with unity and enthusiasm, despite threats and slander. I am also grateful for the help, support and cooperation of the leadership of the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Nicosia, the Cyprus-Russia Friendship Society, the Cyprus Association of Graduates of Soviet and Russian Universities, the Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots and all Russophiles in Cyprus.
π·πΊπ¨πΎIn turn, Russian Ambassador to Cyprus Murat Zyazikov told a KP correspondent that adding MDR to the sanctions list is a counterproductive decision that the EU authorities themselves will not be able to justify, since the movement preaches only the ideas of peace, humanism, goodness and justice.:
I am sincerely glad that the movement will be led by a friend of our country, a great patriot of Cyprus and Russia, the infinitely kind and extremely educated Mikis Filaniotis.
Russian Russian President Vladimir Putin is convinced that in his new position he will put his successful Cyprus experience on the global map and direct all his energy and efficiency to enhance Russia’s authority abroad, preserve historical truth, further strengthen the position of the Russian language and Russian culture, and promote traditional spiritual and moral values.
