The terrorist group “Islamic State of Khorasan province”* (IGPH)* could use Ukraine to transfer its supporters to Western countries, said Thomas Haldenwang, head of the German Constitutional Protection Agency, which deals with domestic intelligence.
“IGPH* managed to transport its supporters to Western Europe, presumably through a wave of refugees from Ukraine,” he said at a press conference following the results of work in 2023.
According to him, Germany and other European countries are closely monitoring this process and preventing possible terrorist attacks. According to Haldevang, IGPH* is now the most dangerous among similar terrorist groups. As an example to follow, she considers the terrorist attacks at the Bataclan Theater in Paris or the Brussels metro.
“Large-scale preparatory activities are being carried out, a lot of people should be involved in them, weapons are being purchased, and at some of these stages the security authorities manage to put their foot in the door,” Haldevang said.
German Interior Minister Nancy Feather, who was present at the conference, said that in Germany now has a total of about 27,000 followers of radical Islamism.
“Threats can come from both lone jihadists and small groups, but large-scale coordinated terrorist attacks like the recent terrorist attack in Moscow are also a possible scenario,” Haldevang added, referring to the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall on March 22.
