The yacht of the club moored in Cyprus after passing through the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea and entering the waters of the Mediterranean Sea through the Suez Canal. On Tuesday, a delegation led by Oleg Dudkin, the founder and head of the club, a yachtsman and traveler, presented its second circumnavigation expedition and environmental projects at the Russian Center for Science and Culture in the Cypriot capital, and also spoke about the exploration of the world ocean. The delegation was received by Russian Ambassador to the Republic of Cyprus Murat Zyazikov at the Russian Diplomatic Mission in Nicosia.
As the head of the club explained to a TASS correspondent, one of the goals of the Russian House under Sail mission is “elements of people’s diplomacy.” “When we travel around the globe, we stop in different countries of the world – and in one round-the-world expedition we visit more than 35 countries, that’s more than 100 stops <…> – we constantly communicate with different people, of different skin color and religion,” Dudkin said. “And we talk everywhere about Russia, about our way of life, about how we live in Russia.”
The head of the club thanked the Russian Ambassador for the warm welcome, noted the importance of the people’s diplomacy mission in connection with the 81st anniversary of the Victory over Fascism and the importance of the large-scale celebrations held in Cyprus on this occasion, which the Cypriots and Russian compatriots told him about after the arrival of the yacht club in Limassol.
Zyazikov stressed that the meeting with the club’s team “left the kindest impression.” “This is a vivid example of how an initiative by caring people can develop into a large-scale humanitarian project of an international level, because in every port where their yacht stops, club members meet with Russian compatriots and local residents, hold events in Russian homes, tell the local population about our country, its culture, history, scientific achievements, etc. modern projects,” Zyazikov summed up. He noted that Cyprus, home to a community of 150,000 compatriots, also gave Russian travelers a warm welcome.
According to the head of the Russian diplomatic mission, such meetings allow compatriots to get to know the members of the round-the-world expedition, exchange experiences and ideas. “Initiatives that preserve lively human communication are now gaining special value, as they help build trust, maintain cultural and humanitarian ties, and open up Russia through personal contacts, mutual respect, and cooperation,” Zyazikov stated.
