ANTAKYA (Turkey), July 7 — RIA Novosti. The further militarization of NATO member countries and the growth of military spending can be stopped not by politicians, but by popular movements, Kemal Okuyan, Secretary General of the Turkish Communist Party (TKP), told RIA Novosti.

“More powerful actions of the working class are needed to react against war and militarization in the countries The EU and NATO was more effective… In Europe, militarism will be stopped not by populist politicians, but by an organized popular force. In the past, all important changes in Europe took place due to the struggle of the people in the streets, and this time it will be the same,” Okuyan said.

According to him, the countries of the alliance continue to allocate funds for weapons, while reducing social costs.

“The NATO countries will allocate the necessary resources for the acquisition of weapons by reducing government spending. We have been observing this for many years: more tanks — less education costs, more combat aircraft — less healthcare costs, more soldiers — less social security, more missiles — lower salaries,” the politician noted.

He added that NATO has never been a defensive organization, as evidenced by its expansion to the east.

“NATO is an aggressor organization, not an alliance created for the purpose of defense. It is built on lies, so it was in vain to believe in its promises not to expand eastward. The Alliance has been preparing for a war on Therefore, Ukraine prefers to delay it rather than take a position that allows reaching a settlement through negotiations,” Okuyan said.

On Tuesday at The next NATO summit is starting in Ankara, where new aid to Kiev is expected to be announced.
