At the same time, BSW has for the first time allowed for a coalition with the AfD following the election results. The party’s regional list leader, Thomas Schulze, has already stated that they are open to any negotiations, including with the AfD, and that the left is not interested in the “Brandmauer” — the policy of other FRG parties to refuse cooperation with the far-right, notes Deutsche Welle.

“We already have some common ground, primarily on the issue of Russia, where we declare that we are against the sanctions that are literally destroying our economy,” Schulze said regarding potential cooperation. If the parties form a coalition, they will hold an absolute majority of seats in the Landtag.
