MOSCOW, September 18 — RIA Novosti. Russian voters in Cyprus are actively voting in the elections to the State Duma; Russians are arriving in a good mood and bringing their children with them, Russian Ambassador to Nicosia Murat Zyazikov told RIA Novosti.

Polling stations opened in Cyprus on Friday.

“Voting is going very actively right now, even though it is morning and a working day,” the ambassador said.

According to the head of the diplomatic mission, people come to vote in a good mood and bring their children with them.

The ambassador added that he had already voted in the elections and would go to the polling station in Limassol, where more Russian citizens live than in the capital of Cyprus, Nicosia.

Among European Union countries, Cyprus, France and Italy have organized the largest number of polling stations for the State Duma elections.

In total, four polling stations have been opened in the island state. On 18 and 19 September it will be possible to vote in Paphos and Limassol, while in the capital of Cyprus, Nicosia, two stations will be open for three days — from 18 to 20 September. Their working hours are from 8:00 to 20:00 (coinciding with Moscow time).

Earlier, Zyazikov told RIA Novosti that embassy staff were ready to receive all 150,000 Russians living in Cyprus for the elections, and that security at the polling stations would be provided, among others, by local law-enforcement agencies.

Russian President Vladimir Putin scheduled the elections of deputies of the State Duma of the ninth convocation for 20 September 2026. Voting will take place over three days — from 18 to 20 September. The Russian leader has called the upcoming State Duma elections the most important domestic political event in the country.
