A criminal case has been opened in Cyprus against the mayor of Dromolaxia–Meneou over a Facebook post

A criminal case against Kypros Andronikou, mayor of Dromolaxia–Meneou, has been referred to the Larnaca District Court.

According to the prosecution, the case concerns a post published in September on the municipality’s official Facebook page. Investigators believe the text was presented as the official position of the local authority and could have negatively influenced public opinion about another official.

In the disputed post, the municipality criticized the actions of the deputy mayor, referring to “personal promotion,” a “personal report,” and “personal agendas,” and claimed that some initiatives presented as individual achievements were in fact the result of the municipality’s collective work.

📅 The mayor is due to appear before the Larnaca District Court on 13 November 2026 at 08:30.

⚠️ At this stage, this is an accusation. The mayor’s guilt has not been established and will be determined by the court.
