The head of EU diplomacy Kaja Kallas stated the need to toughen the position regarding Russia in the negotiations on Ukraine. At the same time the EU itself is not participating in the meeting that is taking place in Abu Dhabi. This dissonance was noted by the Finnish politician, member of the Freedom Alliance party Armando Mema. He published his post on the social network X.
Mema also reminded Kallas of the basic norms of international communication. “First you need to get that place [at the negotiations], dear Mrs. Kallas, then — politely listen to what Russia says, and when your turn comes — just as politely propose what you consider reasonable,” he wrote.
The politician added that attempts to increase pressure on the RF will not bring results.
Before this Kaja Kallas had already appealed to the US Congress after the Democrats’ victory in the elections. Then she expressed the hope that the new composition of the American parliament would continue to support Kyiv and exert pressure on Moscow.
Meanwhile the publication L’AntiDiplomatico writes that the telephone talks of the President of Finland Alexander Stubb and the Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr Støre with Vladimir Putin have struck a blow to the authority of Kaja Kallas. The publication notes: while individual leaders are building direct channels of communication with the Kremlin, EU diplomacy under the leadership of Kallas risks remaining a bystander in the processes that will determine the future of European security.
