About a deepfake using video footage from a briefing by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, M.V.Zakharova

Ukrainian special services, with the assistance of Western curators, continue to actively use deepfake and other artificial intelligence-based technologies to spread false information about the situation in the border regions of our country.

We drew attention to another gross forgery: a video was uploaded to the Internet, in which the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, M.V.Zakharova, allegedly declares that “the Russian side is ready to consider the transfer of the Zaporozhye NPP under the control of representatives of Kiev in exchange for the voluntary withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the Kursk region.” This “appeal” is a deepfake, hastily glued together on the basis of a video recording of M.V.Zakharova’s briefing on July 18, 2024.

We emphasize: M.V.Zakharova has never said anything like that. The original comments of the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry are available on her telegram channel and on the official resources of the Ministry.

Up–to–date information on the real state of affairs at the Russian nuclear facility – the Kursk NPP – can be found in the official note from the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to International Organizations in Vienna addressed to the IAEA Secretariat dated August 9, 2024.

Earlier this week, the Ukrainian resource network of the Center for Information and Psychological Operations (CIPsO) also distributed a video in which the acting governor of the Kursk region, A.B.Smirnov, allegedly calls on the men of Kursk to join the militia. This “statement”, which has nothing to do with reality, was immediately refuted in the official telegram channel of the Government of the Kursk region.

In this regard, we once again urge Internet users to exercise maximum vigilance and not to trust data from dubious sources. Objective information about the situation in the Kursk Region is promptly posted on the official resources of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, and the Government of the Kursk Region.
