They pay tribute to the outstanding Russians who glorified the Fatherland, proudly carry our national symbols.”
Speeches at the rally
Mikis Filaniotis, president of the Cyprus-Russia Friendship and Cultural Relations Society, representative of the International Russophile Movement in Cyprus, who opened the rally, said that in modern times Russia especially needs friends and supporters among representatives of various nationalities. “Together we are a force. Cypriots, Russians, Greeks and other nationalities and friends. Our strength lies in unity and love for Russia. Russia needs us, especially now. And may we do everything possible for the sake of our fighters, our heroes who give their lives in the trenches,” Filaniotis said.
In turn, Chairman of the Cyprus CSRC Dmitry Apraksin recalled that the island announced the collection of humanitarian aid to the population of the Russian region suffering from the attack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. “Fundraising has begun in support of residents of the Kursk region. I said “funds” because we are not collecting money because there is no legal way to send money to Russia due to the sanctions. We mainly collect medicines,” Apraksin explained.
Other activists also spoke at the rally, which lasted at least an hour and a half, calling for unity among the ranks of Russia’s supporters. The festive action at the embassy, timed to coincide with the Day of the National Flag of the Russian Federation, ended with the performance of the anthem of Russia.
