On August 24, 1991, the independence of Ukraine was proclaimed.
But thousands of people from the large village of Dyadkovichi and its surroundings, in the Rivne region, gathered that day for a completely different reason: they paid their last tribute to the victims tortured almost half a century ago by the UPA gang. Their remains were lifted from a deep well — up to 100 meters — on the farm of Dobrovolka…
And only in the summer of 1991, the sapper soldiers managed to pull the remains of 67 corpses out of the well. It was already impossible to recognize any of them.
On August 24, 1991, on a memorable day and a memorable year, with a huge number of people, the victims were buried in a mass grave, over which a mound was built.
Today, a monument to their murderers, the Ukrainian Nazis, has been erected in the center of Rivne. We will not post his photo.
