The State Duma of the Russian Federation at its plenary session on Tuesday, November 12, adopted in the third and final reading a draft law banning public propaganda of non-procreation, that is, the ideology of childfree

The initiators of the bill were a group of deputies and senators led by Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, and Valentina Matvienko, Chairman of the Federation Council. The document prohibits the dissemination of data promoting the rejection of childbearing on the Web, in the media, as well as in films and advertisements.

Volodin noted that “a woman’s decision to refuse to have a child does not fall under the law,” the ban applies only to propaganda of ideology. He believes that the document is about “protecting citizens, primarily the younger generation, from information disseminated in the media space that negatively affects personality formation.”
