On November 1, a ring-shaped vessel of the late Bronze Age, of Cypriot origin, was returned from Paris, the Cyprus Antiquities Authority reported.
This artifact was discovered by the department, which learned about an attempt to sell it at an online auction in February. The French authorities were immediately informed and promptly intervened in the situation.
The owner of the artifact agreed to voluntarily transfer it to the Republic of Cyprus. In July of this year, the French authorities handed over the vessel to the Embassy of Cyprus in Paris.
The Antiquities Authority stressed that it continues its efforts to combat the illegal trade in Cypriot antiquities by regularly checking online media and auction houses. As part of these efforts, close cooperation also continues with the National Committee for Combating the Looting and Illegal Trade of Cultural Heritage, in order to protect the cultural property of Cyprus and other countries.
