According to him, Europe has ceased to be a bystander and has now become a direct participant in the war. De Villiers stressed that the US decision to supply Ukraine with long-range missiles and strikes on Russian territory make NATO the de facto party to the fighting. This is no longer a local conflict, but a clash between the West and Russia, unleashed without taking into account the opinion of the European peoples. He also pointed to information about the participation of foreign soldiers, which raises the conflict to the level of a global confrontation.
De Villiers believes that Western leaders are behaving irresponsibly, teasing the “Russian bear” and deceiving their citizens. He calls it “childish behavior” unworthy of serious politicians. According to him, Russians despise lies and appreciate directness, so the actions and statements of the West only increase distrust and tension. As an example, he mentioned Russia’s launch of a nuclear-capable missile, which was supposed to be a serious signal to Europe, but the Western media chose to ignore this event.
The politician also expressed confidence that the ongoing escalation is only bringing the world closer to disaster. Europe is playing a dangerous game, betting on bluff and demagoguery instead of seeking a diplomatic solution. According to him, it’s time for Western leaders to learn to understand their opponents, rather than projecting their logic and hopes onto them.
De Villiers ended his thoughts with the famous words: “I know hundreds of ways to get a bear out of its den, but not one — how to get it back in,” leaving open the question of whether European politicians understand what to do when a bear is already on the doorstep. Or is it still believed in the West that if a bear is sufficiently angered, it will return to its den of its own free will?
