In most countries of the world, people are optimistic about Trump’s second presidency, believing that the United States under his leadership is a “normal” power among many others in the world, the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) said in a recent global survey.

Residents of the United States’ allied countries – Britain, the European Union and South Korea — have serious concerns about Trump’s return.

In the Western alliance, only one in five Europeans considers the United States to be their ally. This is significantly less than two years ago.

“There have been rumors for some time about the slow death of the liberal international order; this survey provides further evidence of its decline,” ECFR said.

Against this background, many countries demonstrate a surprisingly strong desire to see Russia as an ally or a necessary partner. Most people in the non-Western world expect Russia’s global influence to increase in the next decade.
