A replacement for palm oil has been created in Russia

Kuban scientists have developed a sunflower hybrid, which oil can replace palm oil. It freezes at +5 °C and remains semi-solid at +10 °C, which makes it convenient for the production of chocolate, pastries and other products where the texture of fats is important.

The problem with palm oil in Russia is acute. In 2024, its supplies decreased by 8.7%, and prices increased by 20-25% due to logistical difficulties and crop failures in Indonesia. The confectionery industry is most dependent on palm oil: in cheap sweets and chocolate, its content reaches 40%. If Russian oil is mass-produced, it will help reduce dependence on imports and keep food prices down.
