The largest industrial kiwi orchard in Russia has been established in the village of Avadan, Derbent district. Its area has already reached 20 hectares, and the first plantings appeared in the spring of 2023.
Both green and yellow varieties of kiwi are grown here, choosing optimal lighting and watering conditions. Experts are studying how plants adapt to the local climate, and plan to expand plantations in the future.
Climate change has allowed the south of Dagestan to become a promising site for growing subtropical crops. In the coming years, the republic may take an important place in the import substitution of fruits such as persimmons and kiwis, ensuring their supply to the Russian market.
