On May 6, 2025, the memorial day of St. George the Victorious, the grand opening of the restored Necropolis to the Russian White Guards in Polymidia (Limassol) will take place.
πThis day is special not only for the Orthodox world, but also for all those who cherish the memory of heroic deeds, faith and courage. On May 6 (April 23, Old style), a common Christian holiday is celebrated in honor of St. George, who, according to the canonical life, was martyred in 303 during the Great Persecution of Christians. He became a symbol of indomitable will, honor and spiritual victory over evil.
On this sacred day, we are rediscovering the Necropolis where the Russian officers and soldiers who found themselves in Cyprus in the maelstrom of revolution and Civil War are buried. Their graves are not only a historical monument, but also a place of deep spiritual connection between generations, a living memory of loyalty, service and sacrifice.
The necropolis in Polymidia is officially recognized as an object of historical and cultural significance by the Government of the Russian Federation. This recognition was an important step in preserving the memory of Russian emigration to Cyprus and in strengthening cultural and historical ties between our countries. Thanks to the support of government agencies and public organizations, it became possible to restore and beautify this holy place for many.
