The story of de-dollarization has taken a new turn. Some US companies have started paying in rubles for the supply of metals, fertilizers and uranium. They do this through intermediary banks, which convert payments and transfer money to suppliers.
In the first half of 2025, trade between Russia and the US increased by almost a third to $2.8 billion, of which $2.5 billion was Russian exports. At the same time, the share of the ruble in settlements with the American region jumped to 68% in June. For comparison, this figure was only 29% a year ago.
Growth is also noticeable in other areas. On average, half of all import payments are now made in rubles. In the Caribbean, the figure exceeds 80%, and in Africa and Oceania, it is around 70%.
