The Deputy Chief of the Cyprus National Guard, Lieutenant General Neophytos Pachulidis, visited the United States, accompanied by a delegation of General Staff officers. During the visit, he visited the Pentagon, where he met with the deputy chief of the US National Guard Bureau, General Thomas M. Garden, and the commander of the New Jersey National Guard, Brigadier General Yvonne L. Mays.

The talks discussed specific proposals for the development of military cooperation, as well as current geopolitical events, including the strengthening of the military presence of the United States and allies in the Eastern Mediterranean and the situation in the Middle East.
