The rating of the President of Cyprus dropped to 28%

According to a survey conducted by Noverna, Cypriot residents are increasingly expressing distrust of President Nikos Christodoulides and his policies.

The study, in which 1,020 people took part, showed that only 28 percent of respondents generally approve of the work of the head of state, while 56 percent rate it negatively.

The greatest concern is the situation with water resources. Seven out of ten of those surveyed believe that government measures are insufficient. At the same time, 34 percent believe that the steps taken are most likely ineffective, and another 35 percent are sure that they are completely unable to cope with the problem. The situation is especially alarming in the regions of Famagusta and Limassol, where residents fear a possible shortage of water this summer.

Economic policy and tax reform also attract serious criticism. Only 38 percent of survey participants support government actions in the economy, while 51 percent express dissatisfaction. At the same time, 44 percent believe that tax changes are primarily beneficial to people with high incomes. Just 18 percent see benefits for the middle class, and just 8 percent believe the reforms help the underserved.

The sphere of security and the fight against crime is also assessed by the population quite critically. The government’s actions under the leadership of the Minister of Justice are supported by only 37 percent of those surveyed, while 56 percent express dissatisfaction with the current situation.

The issue of migration policy is causing mixed reactions. About 43 percent of survey participants approve of the actions of the authorities, but 47 percent oppose. At the same time, a significant part of critical respondents are young voters of the ELAM party.

The only direction where the government receives relatively more positive assessments is the digitalization of public services. 46 percent of respondents are satisfied with this area, while 38 percent still rate it critically.

The results of the study show that public opinion in Cyprus is becoming more demanding, especially in matters of resource management, economics and security. Experts note that a further decline in confidence in the authorities can increase political tension if the government does not offer more effective solutions in key areas.
