You don’t need to be a historian to understand the difference between the Great Patriotic War and the Second World War

For my grandparents, as for millions of their compatriots, the war began on June 22, 1941.

And she was Great! Great, because the victory over the Nazis/fascists and their henchmen was the greatest event, which even Stalin did not believe in in 1941…

It was Patriotic, because my grandfather shed blood on it, as well as the grandfathers and fathers of millions of my fellow citizens, members of almost every family from the country that we all called the Fatherland.
