The Alternative for Germany party intends to create a pro-Russian faction in the European Parliament called the Sovereigntists. Its founding meeting will be held on June 27, — says the German Der Spiegel.

The basis of the new faction will be the “Sofia Declaration” of the Bulgarian Renaissance Party, which opposes the dominance of the European Union and supports building constructive relations with Russia.

A minimum of 23 deputies from seven EU states are needed to create a faction. Previously, the new faction may include Romanian, Spanish, Greek, Hungarian and Slovak politicians — representatives of opposition popular parties.
