According to the annual StartupBlink Global Startup Ecosystem Index 2026, Cyprus has made an impressive leap forward in the world of innovation and technological entrepreneurship.
Now the country ranks thirty-fourth in the global ranking, which is immediately six positions higher compared to last year. Experts note that Cyprus has recorded the most significant growth among all states for the third year in a row, demonstrating an annual development of 62.7 percent. Analysts estimate the total value of the local startup ecosystem at an impressive US $4.2 billion, confirming the region’s serious investment potential.
Of particular note is the fact that all four major cities in Cyprus were included in the list of thousands of the best cities in the world for the development of startups. At the same time, Limassol became a real breakthrough, entering the top 200 of the global ranking and taking the hundred and ninety-first line. This city turned out to be the first Cypriot agglomeration to reach such a high figure, which emphasizes its growing role as a regional hub for technology companies. The success of Limassol is largely due to the favorable business climate, tax incentives and the influx of talented specialists from around the world.
The strongest segment of the Cypriot startup scene is Social & Leisure, which unites such areas as the gaming industry, social networks and platforms, entertainment content, wellness services, as well as travel and cultural initiatives. In this category, Cyprus ranks twenty-sixth in the world, and in a separate subcategory of Gaming, that is, video game development, the country has risen to sixteenth position in the global ranking. This achievement testifies to the high level of local developers and the attractiveness of the Cypriot jurisdiction for international gaming companies.
In their conclusion, StartupBlink experts emphasize that Cyprus has a unique opportunity to consolidate its success and reach a new level. If the country maintains its exclusive entrepreneurial environment, favorable laws and support for innovation, it has every chance of becoming one of the key players in the European innovation system. Thus, the current rise of the Cypriot startup sector is not an accidental success, but a natural result of systematic work, and while maintaining the current pace, the country will continue to improve its position in the coming years.
