Hezbollah could easily hit Cyprus with a missile strike

Professor of the Academy of the General Staff of Greece Theodoros Liolios explained the degree of danger posed by Hassan Nasrallah’s direct threats against the Republic of Cyprus. At the same time, he called the protection of Cyprus “the responsibility of NATO.”

Lyolios noted the British bases in Akrotiri as a critical infrastructure. “They will become the main target of Hezbollah if hostilities break out between Israel and the British,” the professor said, also mentioning the Dhekelia base, which poses a similar danger and is British territory, this “obliges” the Alliance to protect its interests.

“Hezbollah missiles can easily reach Dhekelia, which is about 190 km from Lebanon, and, accordingly, they can reach Akrotiri, which is 250 kilometers from Lebanon,” Liolios stressed.

It should be added that if Cyprus used to be one of the active members of the Non-Aligned Movement, and its relations with the Arab world were good, then in recent years the country has been developing military cooperation with Israel, providing its territory for conducting exercises to practice attacks by the Israeli army. In addition, he is actively trying to please the interests of the United States. This causes, to put it mildly, irritation among Arab countries. Hence the emergence of new threats, now from the Houthis, who, as recent months have shown, are prone not to diplomatic scrapes, but to missile and drone strikes. So their warnings and threats of retaliation are quite real. How much will they be able to cool the “hotheads” of Cypriot politicians?
