Oksana Fomina has been appointed Consul of Ukraine in Cyprus. A dispute broke out around this decision: the former ambassador of Ukraine to Nicosia, Sergei Nijinsky, speaking in the Verkhovna Rada, admitted that the new consul, through his father, lawyer Igor Fomin, was connected with the former head of the Presidential Office, Andrei Ermak. This was announced on July 21, 2026 by the SigmaLive portal with reference to Ukrainian publications.

Neither the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry nor the defendants themselves have yet commented on these allegations. No evidence of this connection has been publicly presented.

What exactly did the ex-ambassador say about the new consul?

According to Nijinsky, four candidates applied for the position of consul in Cyprus, and Fomina was the only lawyer among them. The ex-ambassador claims that he gave all candidates zero points because he believes that consular work requires special diplomatic knowledge and experience.

Despite Nijinsky’s position, the decision was not changed: Fomina was appointed, and now, according to the ex-ambassador, she is undergoing training before leaving for Cyprus.

There is no official reaction from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to the assumptions that Fomina is the daughter of lawyer Igor Fomin, there have been no public statements from the mentioned persons either, and the publications that have replicated the topic have not yet provided evidence. The author of the accusations left Nicosia with a scandal after working as ambassador for less than a year — he was appointed in July 2025. In June 2026, Nijinsky announced that he was leaving due to the “illegal demands” of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, but the Foreign Ministry called these accusations false and manipulative.

According to the agency, Foreign Minister Andrei Sibiga submitted the idea of the ambassador’s recall to the president on June 10, before the diplomat’s statements appeared in the press, and the ministry described Nijinsky’s work in Cyprus as inert, passive and creating reputational risks for the state.
