American scientist, philosopher. One of the world’s largest leftist thinkers.
He was born in Philadelphia.
He studied philosophy and linguistics at the University of Pennsylvania.
He wrote the book Syntactic Structures (1957), which had a huge impact on the development of language science around the world (many even talk about the “Chomsky revolution” in linguistics).
Chomsky also made a significant contribution to the development of cognitive sciences.
Since the 60s he has been actively writing works on political philosophy.
In 1971, he debated with Michel Foucault about human nature (there is a record on YouTube).
Chomsky himself calls himself a libertarian socialist and a supporter of anarcho-syndicalism. He consistently criticizes the US government from the left.
From an interview with The New Statesman:
“For 30 years, Russia, represented by all its leaders and interested senior American officials, has been saying that Moscow will not stand aside when Ukraine joins NATO. Take a look at what happened in 2021-2022 (and this is documented). The Biden administration proposed an expanded program for Ukraine’s accession to NATO, which provided for the build-up of weapons and their interoperability. And all this against the background of the ongoing attacks on Donbass.
And this is the background of the special operation. Until February 2022, Russia urged not to ignore its security concerns and to negotiate a peaceful settlement of the situation. These proposals were categorically rejected, and the situation was heating up. Last March, negotiations between Russia and Ukraine took place with the mediation of Turkey, but what did the UK do? Boris Johnson flew to Kiev specifically to convey to Ukrainians the position of the United States and Britain, and it was that the time for negotiations had not yet come. Lloyd Austin followed him to deliver a very clear message in his characteristic manner: we must continue the fight to seriously weaken Russia.
The negotiations failed, and it is unclear why the Western media does not cover this.”
