Cyprus swimming champions go to the Olympic Games in Paris

Nicolas Antoniou and his sister Kalia, Cyprus swimming champions, will participate in the Olympic Games for the second time after their debut in Tokyo.

“There is nothing better than going to the Olympic Games with my sister. I am immensely proud that Kalia and I managed to qualify for the second time. I hope that we will achieve even greater success compared to 2021. My sister and I will try to do everything possible for Cyprus to win.”

Nicholas will be performing in Paris on July 30th. He spoke about the difficulties associated with training in Cyprus: “We have a lot of problems with swimming pools. They are too hot, which interferes with training, so I have to constantly travel from Limassol to Nicosia or Larnaca to find the right pool temperature.”

When asked about his goals in Paris, the Cypriot champion replied that he was striving to achieve a personal record. “I always give my best and hope to achieve a personal best, which is the most important goal for me this year. If I manage to reach 49.5 seconds, I will be very proud,” Nicholas said.

He also commented on combining training with studying in America, noting that the main difficulty lies in cultural adaptation and being away from family and friends. After the Olympic Games, Nicholas plans to return to Cyprus and then travel to the United States again.

Nicholas also intends to spend a successful season at the university, where the pool is different from the Olympic one, and prepare for the Games of the small states of Europe and the World Championships next year.
