Spain refused to let the Russian frigate Shtandart into its port

Spain refused to let the Russian historical frigate Shtandart into its port of Vigo. This was announced on July 24 by the ship’s captain Vladimir Martus.

The Russian ship was supposed to dock on July 24 and stay there until August 15.

“We have received information that the ministry has sent a notification to all Spanish ports in order not to allow the Standard to enter ports,” the captain of the vessel told RIA Novosti.

Martus clarified that the ship anchored 500 m off the Spanish coast. According to him, the vessel will not be able to leave the waters of the European Union due to lack of fuel.

The captain of the frigate “Shtandart” informed that he intends to achieve the lifting of sanctions.

Earlier, on July 23, the French authorities banned the “Standard” from entering the military and commercial port of Brest on the Brittany peninsula. The ship has almost run out of drinking water, said Jean-Paul Elkan, head of the seafarers’ aid association Mor Glaz. They will continue to seek permission for the frigate to dock. In addition, Elkan clarified that he also had a conversation with representatives of the pro-Ukrainian association, which sought to impose sanctions against the vessel.

On the same day, Elkan said that the refusal of the Russian frigate Shtandart to enter the port of Brest demonstrates the weakness of France, which is being led by Brussels, supporting sanctions against Russia. He drew attention to the fact that France is not currently solving such issues on its own, relying on the European Union. The head of the association stressed that he considers the sanctions against sailors “unfair and disgusting.” He noted that they had done nothing wrong, but just wanted to show the ship in Brest.
