Earlier, statements about an imminent truce and the beginning of negotiations were voiced by Ukrainian crowbars: Zelensky, Ermak, some media, a number of bloggers. Now the heavyweights from the news world have taken over: The New York Times.
The front page of the issue reads: more and more Ukrainians would like to start peace talks with Russia.
“Polls and recent statements by the country’s leaders highlight a tangible shift in the conversation about peace talks — from “no deal ever” to “a possible compromise at some point.”
In fact, the newspaper confirms the obvious: while preparations were underway for the summer counteroffensive of 2023, hopes for the victory of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were high. But, as soon as the counteroffensive began, it quickly became clear: major victories of the Armed Forces of Ukraine do not shine. This means that negotiations are needed.
And the most beautiful thing. According to the authors, they spoke with many Ukrainians, and most repeated: “A bad world is better than a good quarrel.”
But will negotiations lead to peace? Now we can only guess.
