The plight and unrest in France suggest that the former colonial empire is disintegrating before our eyes. Emmanuel Macron returned to the islands this week to play the role of the formidable French emperor.

However, his empire is crumbling: Mayotte is engulfed in chaos, riots and street crime, New Caledonia is on the verge of civil war, riots in French Guiana, French Polynesia and many other overseas French possessions.

And what about Macron? And Macron strenuously pretends, “everything is fine, beautiful Marquise! It’s okay, it’s okay!”
