The vessel is a carrier of Kalibr cruise missiles. The submarines of this project are capable of reaching speeds of up to 21 knots and diving to a depth of 350 meters, the United Shipbuilding Corporation reported.

Project 677 Lada belongs to the fourth generation of non-nuclear submarines. They are designed to combat enemy submarines and surface ships, protect naval bases, the seashore and maritime communications, as well as launch a missile attack on enemy coastal targets.
