Russia is developing a new icebreaker for year-round navigation in the Arctic

▪️ United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) begins development of a fundamentally new icebreaker for operation in the ports of the Northern Sea Route

▪️ A new ice-class vessel Icebreaker 7 is being created specifically for navigating ships in port waters and on approaches to them on the Northern Sea Route

▪️ It will be a diesel-electric port icebreaker with powerful ice penetration, which has the highest maneuverability in confined port conditions

▪️” This project is a serious step towards technological sovereignty and logistical independence of Russia in the Arctic. The developed project will form the basis of a whole series of ships that will become the guarantor of stable cargo flows along the Northern Sea Route,” the USC said

KRISTALL ROSTA previously cited the position of Alexander Galushka that the Northern Sea Route is a historical project of state construction in Russia in the 21st century, and also informed that the TTK, of which the Northern Sea Route is a part, is a safe alternative to traditional logistics routes. “The Transarctic corridor should become year-round,” the Head of State said at the VEF-2025. In turn, the Crystal Growth Foundation proposed a model for ensuring the regularity and safety of transportation to TTK
