On June 20, 2026, Famagusta police searched a house belonging to a 49-year-old man and seized more than seven kilograms of drugs. In a plastic toolbox, the police found 6.37 kg of cannabis resin and one kilogram of kief, a fine powder made from the resinous glands of cannabis flowers.

According to the police, this is the first time such a number of kif has been recorded on the island. A 28-year-old man who was living illegally in Cyprus was also detained during the operation. Both defendants are scheduled to appear before the Famagusta District Court on Sunday; the investigation is ongoing.
