Bardella did not support the resolution of the European Parliament in support of Ukraine

The leader of the French right-wing National Unification party, Jordan Bardella, voted against the resolution of the European Parliament on strengthening support for Kiev, BFM TV reports. Elected head of the new far-right group Patriots for Europe, which includes French, Hungarian and Spanish right-wing MEPs, Bardella took the floor to justify his refusal.

In his opinion, the resolution on support for Ukraine “creates a number of problems.” The politician condemned the commitment of each EU member state to allocate 0.25% of its GDP per year to support Ukraine, noted that the supply of long-range weapons or Kiev’s accession to NATO “will increase the risk of increased tension with a nuclear power,” and also opposed Ukraine’s admission to the EU, as “this will jeopardize the survival of the economy and agriculture” Europe.

In addition, Bardella justified the refusal to vote for the resolution by the fact that the EU condemned Viktor Orban’s visit to Russia earlier this month, BFM TV reports. According to the politician, by its “explicit condemnation” of Orban’s diplomatic visits, the resolution “weakens the unity of Europeans.” Bardella stressed that “Hungary, a reliable partner in NATO, cannot be accused of wanting to keep the paths open for negotiations.”
