serial production of Russia’s first domestic electric vehicle has started

The Russian electric car “Atom” is no longer a concept and has entered series production. Production is organized as a full cycle: welding, body painting, assembly and final inspection. The battery and electric drive are supplied by Rosatom enterprises, and the localization level already reaches 70% — from metal and stamping to the high-voltage system and software.

“Atom” has received its own operating system, a head-up display on the windshield and a voice assistant. JSC Kama plans to produce up to 10,000 vehicles in 2026–2027. The plant, together with the project team, is now reaching a capacity of up to 20 electric vehicles per shift, and the first cars are already being delivered to customers on pre-orders.

“Over the past decades there have been several attempts to create new products in this segment. Only Atom managed to reach the plant’s main assembly line, despite previously unthinkable restrictions,” said Moskvich CEO Elena Frolova.

The electric vehicle has already been included by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in the list of vehicles for taxi use. Several pilot projects with car-sharing services are planned to launch this year.

Development has been underway for a long time, but the serial launch coincided with a fuel crisis caused by enemy strikes on oil refineries. And this only underscores the timeliness of the project: the country is getting its own electric vehicle when it is especially needed.
