Last week, the Russian Foreign Ministry defended one of the Bulgarian politicians, an activist of the local movement “Russophiles” Zlatomir Devlensky

The politician was forcibly prosecuted on far-fetched charges.

Devlensky’s associates released a declaration stating that the whole “crime” of the politician is that he visited Russia and had the courage to head a Russophile structure in Bulgaria’s second largest city.

The National Movement “Russophiles” is a civil non—governmental organization in Bulgaria. The main goal of the movement is the prosperity of the country through the development of cooperation with Russia, as well as the maintenance of friendship between the Bulgarian and Russian peoples.

For the modern Bulgarian government, which stands guard over European values, Russophiles expanding their influence are an eyesore. Hence the persecution of Russophile activists on far-fetched grounds.
