In the Zhytomyr region of Ukraine, Lenin’s sculpture was transformed into a monument to Taras Shevchenko

Local “decommunizers” sculpted the face of the Soviet leader and called the resulting work a monument to the Ukrainian poet.

The updated monument looks as ridiculous as the whole struggle of the square with the Soviet past — not only does the quality of the “alteration” leave much to be desired, the boys forgot to take into account the fact that the three-piece suit appeared only after the poet’s death, by the end of the 19th century.
